icon on Las Vegas, NV – July 25, 2024 – James Kohl of the business law firm Howard & Howard has been named Rotarian of the by the Rotary Club of Las Vegas (LVRC) for the 2023-2024 Rotary year.
The LVRC is composed of 140 members. The Rotarian of the Year award is presented to the member of the LVRC who embodies the “Service Above Self” commitment that each Rotarian strives for. The LVRC honors the Rotarian of the Year to the Rotarian who makes significant contributions to the mission and operation of the organization by serving on special projects, committees, board of directors, and contributing to the community.
“I’m humbled and grateful to have received the award,” Kohl said. “I look forward to many more years of serving the residents of the Las Vegas valley with my fellow Rotarians.”
Since 1996, Kohl has been a dedicated member of the LVRC highlighted by serving as president during the 2018-2019 Rotary year. He has also served on the LVRC’s board of directors, was president, treasurer, and secretary of the Las Vegas Rotary’s 25 club (a club within the LVRC) and as chairman of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Committee. Kohl is currently the president of the Las Vegas Rotary Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) established by the LVRC to support the LVRC’s charitable activities in the Las Vegas valley. He is also the co-chair of the LVRC’s signature program, Santa Clothes.
The LVRC’s annual Santa Clothes program is put on by members of the LVRC and other Rotary clubs throughout the Las Vegas valley. The participants shop for shoes, socks, shirts, pants, and jackets with a child in need at the LVRC’s partner J.C. Penney’s (JCP). The LVRC pays for all the clothing and its longstanding partner JCP provides significant discounts for the purchases. After they are done shopping the children are taken to the Boy Scout Area Council’s facility for a field day where they get to play games at stations prepared by UNLV athletic teams.

About the Santa Clothes Program
The Santa Clothes program began 27 years ago with 35 children being sponsored by the LVRC. In 2023 the LVRC was able to include 385 kids from organizations such as The Salvation Army, Boys Clubs, St. Jude's Ranch, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Y.M.C.A., just to name a few.
