Royal Oak, Mich./Las Vegas, NV, October 1, 2020 – W. West Allen, a partner in the Las Vegas office of Howard & Howard, has been installed as the Federal Bar Association’s (FBA) 93rd National President.
In remarks made at the FBA presidential installation ceremony held at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse in Las Vegas, Allen said, “America’s federal judges and lawyers are the guardians of the Constitution. The Federal Bar Association exists for these guardians. It is the means to be engaged in good causes, advance the principles of the Constitution, improve our U.S. legal system, and strengthen the independence of our judiciary.
“As President of the FBA, I will remind all lawyers of our oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution and to be engaged in these good causes. We must truly understand what our Constitution teaches. May we all carry on resolutely in the journey to perfect the administration of justice,” Allen said.
Allen is an intellectual property litigator and counselor who represents a wide variety of international clients in federal courts. He previously served as chair of the FBA’s Government Relations Committee for seven years. In addition, Allen has been a member of the FBA Board of Directors for much of the past decade. He also received the FBA’s President’s Award for longstanding service to the association.
Allen founded the Nevada State Bar’s Intellectual Property Section, was the principal author of Nevada’s Local Patent Rules, and has served on numerous Local Rules Committees and U.S. Magistrate Judge Appointment and Re-appointment Panels for the United States District Court, District of Nevada. He has also chaired the Clark County (Las Vegas) Bar Association’s annual Liberty Bell Award Committee.
He has been named to Mountain States Super Lawyers (2014-2020), Super Lawyers Top 100 Mountain States Lawyers (2014; 2018-2019) and recognized by The Best Lawyers in America© (2013-2021). He has also been selected to Managing IP magazine’s “IP Stars” and Nevada Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite” (2016-2018).
In addition, Allen volunteers and has served since 2008 on the Opportunity Village Board of Directors, Nevada’s premier charity assisting those with intellectual disabilities. He is a volunteer Children’s Attorney Project lawyer with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. He has also served for many years on the advisory board for Humanitarian Experience for Youth, an international youth service project organization.
Allen is a graduate of Brigham Young University and UIC John Marshall Law School.
