Royal Oak, Michigan, December 19, 2013: Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC is pleased to announce that Tiffany L. Carpenter, Miles T. Macik and R. Saleha Mohamedulla have become shareholders in the firm. Ms. Carpenter practices out of the Chicago Office and Mr. Macik and Ms. Mohamedulla both practice out of the firm’s Royal Oak Office.
Tiffany L. Carpenter focuses her practice on matters involving commercial litigation, contract disputes, products liability, employment, mechanics liens, toxic torts, mortgage foreclosures, intellectual property, patent infringement, securities, breach of fiduciary duties, and fraud issues.
She regularly counsels clients on matters related to employment and construction agreements. Ms. Carpenter has experience representing and defending clients during individual and corporate depositions, drafting and arguing analytical memoranda, demand letters, settlement agreements, and substantive motions in federal and state courts throughout the nation. Ms. Carpenter has tried civil matters in both state and federal Court. Through her private employment practice as well as her pro bono practice as a volunteer for the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Inc. Settlement Assistance Project, she has gained experience representing clients in civil rights matters.
Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Ms. Carpenter was a litigation associate delivering a full range of litigation-related services in over 40 state and federal cases nationwide. She also served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Charles P. Kocoras of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
While attending law school, Ms. Carpenter externed for the Honorable Jesse G. Reyes of the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County as well as the Honorable Charles P. Kocoras of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. During this time, she was honored as the first recipient of the Marie Monahan Judicial Externship Scholarship. Ms. Carpenter served as Associate Barrister of the Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution Honors Board and participated in numerous trial advocacy and dispute resolution competitions. She was also a 711-clerk for the Torts Division of the City of Chicago’s Corporation Counsel’s office where she gained experience in settlement negotiations, arbitrations, and trials.
Ms. Carpenter received her B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004 and her J.D. from The John Marshall School of Law in 2007. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and the Illinois Judges Foundation’s Lawyers Auxiliary Committee. Ms. Carpenter is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois.
Miles T. Macik focuses his practice on a wide range of litigation matters, including but not limited to: automotive and supply chain disputes, business ownership/oppression disputes, and sales representative commission disputes.
Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Mr. Macik represented clients in litigation matters in the state and federal courts of Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma, California, Maryland, Florida and Massachusetts. He is a former professional football player with the Detroit Lions and has experience as a small business/franchise owner.
Mr. Macik received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996 and his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2001. He is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and before the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
R. Saleha Mohamedulla concentrates her practice in intellectual property law, focusing primarily on patent prosecution and patent infringement litigation in chemical and mechanical technologies.
Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Ms. Mohamedulla was in corporate practice at The Dow Chemical Company, where she was patent counsel for its films technology. As patent counsel, she prepared and prosecuted patent applications, advised business groups on global intellectual property development, prepared transactional business arrangements and managed outside counsel.
Ms. Mohamedulla previously acquired invaluable insight into the patenting process as a patent examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Specifically, she gained an inside perspective of issues considered by patent examiners when determining the patentability of an invention. While at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Ms. Mohamedulla examined patent applications in the chemical and semiconductor processing arts, including integrated circuits, chips, photoresists, photolithography and other chemical processes.
After graduating law school, Ms. Mohamedulla practiced as an associate at a prominent general practice law firm in Washington, D.C. In this role, she prosecuted patent applications relating to liquid crystal technology and electrical and mechanical devices for LG Display Co., Ltd. and LG Chem Ltd. She also prepared non-infringement, invalidity and product clearance opinions.
Ms. Mohamedulla received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1999, where she received awards and scholarships. In 2004, she received her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia where she was on the intellectual property law track. Ms. Mohamedulla is admitted to the state bars of Michigan, the District of Columbia and Virginia. She is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
