
The drug mifepristone is under fire after a Texas judge issued an order to suspend government approval of the drug, which serves as a treatment for stomach ulcers and, when coupled with misoprostol, can also work as an abortifacient.
Deerfield-based Walgreens is at the center of the issue, as it has been vocally adamant about dispensing the drug despite debate and changing laws. After the Biden administration's request was partly approved, the state of the drug's legality will likely end up in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court.
