Mr. Powers concentrates his practice in employee benefits, taxation and ERISA matters.
He also has additional experience in estate and gift tax planning and compliance as well as general corporate law.
Mr. Powers advises clients on all aspects of employee benefits and ERISA, including qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, welfare benefit and cafeteria plans, government plans, executive compensation, fiduciary issues, benefit issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, benefit related litigation, the Affordable Care Act, COBRA and HIPAA. Mr. Powers also has extensive experience in taxation, including federal, international, and state planning and compliance for corporations, partnerships, S corporations, exempt organizations and individuals.
Mr. Powers received a B.A., with honors, in Business Administration from Western Illinois University in 1980 and a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1984. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and serves on its Employee Benefits and Federal Taxation Committees.
