Mr. Long concentrates his practice in the areas of complex commercial litigation, product liability and real estate.

He has twenty-two years of experience litigating complex commercial litigation and business litigation cases, including disputes involving manufacturers, suppliers, vendors and independent contractors. Mr. Long has also defended business litigation cases involving automotive supply controversies, automobile joint venture agreements, construction disputes, sales representative commission claims, vendor terminations, shareholder disputes and business divorces, non-competition covenants, misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference and other business torts.

In addition to his broad commercial litigation and business litigation experience, Mr. Long has extensive experience in defending medical device product liability cases across the country. He has defended medical device manufacturers in courts in California, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin. Mr. Long has also defended manufacturers in a variety of medical device related cases, including devices implanted in the spine, knee, hip, ear and eye. He also has experience in handling other types of product liability cases, including, tire defects, asbestos, silica dust, phentermine and fenfluramine ("Phen Fen"), phenolic foam and breast implants.

Mr. Long has been instrumental in the development of defense strategies in complex litigation matters handled by the firm. He works with clients to find the most cost-effective resolution to disputes and then aggressively pursues litigation where necessary, while always keeping open to the potential for an amicable resolution. He has tried many cases to verdict in both state and federal courts as well as before the American Arbitration Association.

Mr. Long received a B.A. in Economics and Management from Albion College in 1989 and a J.D. from the Michigan State University College of Law in 1994. While in law school, he was a member of the Law Review and a finalist in the Case Note Competition. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Tort and Insurance Practice, Products Liability and Litigation Sections); State Bar of Michigan (Commercial Litigation and Product Liability Sections); State Bar of Ohio; Federal Bar Association (Eastern District of Michigan); Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Association of Defense Trial Counsel.

Mr. Long is admitted to practice in the States of Michigan and Ohio and has also been admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. He has been admitted Pro Hac Vice in a number of state and federal courts located in Illinois, Iowa, Nevada, Louisiana and Wisconsin.

    • Obtained a nearly $4 million dollar verdict against a Tier I automobile supplier on behalf of a Tier II supplier of automobile seat components who had been wrongly terminated shortly before the original kick-off of production on a new vehicle.
    • Defeated a $73 million dollar Y2K related claim filed in Michigan by securing an outright dismissal for our client after nearly three years of litigation.
