Ms. Carpenter focuses her practice on matters involving products liability, employment, commercial litigation, contract disputes and mechanics lien issues.
She regularly counsels clients on matters related to employment and construction agreements. Ms. Carpenter has experience representing and defending clients during individual and corporate depositions, drafting and arguing analytical memoranda, demand letters, settlement agreements, and substantive motions in federal and state courts throughout the nation. Ms. Carpenter has tried civil matters in both state and federal Court. Through her private and pro bono practice as a volunteer for the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Inc. Settlement Assistance Project, she has gained experience representing clients in civil rights matters.
Prior to joining Howard & Howard, Ms. Carpenter was a litigation associate delivering a full range of litigation-related services in over 40 state and federal cases nationwide. She also served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Charles P. Kocoras of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
While attending law school, Ms. Carpenter externed for the Honorable Jesse G. Reyes of the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County as well as the Honorable Charles P. Kocoras of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. During this time, she was honored as the first recipient of the Marie Monahan Judicial Externship Scholarship. Ms. Carpenter served as Associate Barrister of the Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution Honors Board and participated in numerous trial advocacy and dispute resolution competitions. She was also a 711-clerk for the Torts Division of the City of Chicago’s Corporation Counsel’s office where she gained experience in settlement negotiations, arbitrations, and trials.
Ms. Carpenter received her B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004 and her J.D. from The John Marshall School of Law in 2007. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and the Illinois Judges Foundation’s Lawyers Auxiliary Committee. Ms. Carpenter is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Trial Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
